Chopinot's choreographic horizon has long since moved away from the invention of unheard-of gestures. It's also been a long time since her art has celebrated the zeitgeist, and instead taken on the role of contre-ptemps, or counter-power. If the choreographer's work shows any urgency today, it's to "punch a hole in reality", to rip open its asphyxiating overflow and open up the void. Chopinot takes infinite care not to stupefy the spectator, not to impose any image of completeness. She tirelessly inscribes emptiness, distance and distance - within bodies (of dancers and spectators alike), between bodies, between bodies and the world.
