From her earliest choreographies, Chopinot has been interested in "primary gestures": walking, running, jumping, trampling, lying down, falling... In her works of the 1980s, these functional actions, like so many provocative ready-mades, counterbalance the technicality of dance, broadening its scope and challenging its definition.
