A D-N

If the title A D-N evokes the double helix at the origin of life, for Régine Chopinot it's first and foremost the initials of Alexandra David-Neel, an exceptional woman, orientalist, Tibetologist, opera singer and feminist, journalist and anarchist, writer and explorer, freemason and French Buddhist. She was also the first woman to reach Lhasa, Tibet's capital, then off-limits to foreigners. But what fascinates the choreographer are the thousands of steps the explorer took, surveying the Himalayan solitudes for fourteen years, before settling in Toulon and then Digne-les-Bains. Inviting circus artist Phia Ménard, dancer Prunelle Bry and guitarist Nico Morcillo, Régine Chopinot creates a superb meditation on movement, imbued with the physical and spiritual experience of the adventurer. Their gestural movements suspend time, while awakening the flow of our emotions. Braiding their singular journeys with their concern for freedom, the female trio weaves an ode to life, to its DNA.
